children structured course [intermediate]

At this level, students will begin to learn the fundamentals of artwork and portfolio building which focuses on honing techniques and skills essential to artwork creation. They will learn about basics such as bodily anatomy and different materials, as well as crucial concepts such as colour theory.

We offer three progressive sections for this level in the course:

In section A of our Intermediate level, students will learn about colour matching and creating textures that are more complicated such as transparencies and fur textures.

Learn to mix the complementary colours using chromatic greys and understand the thought process of matching colours using acrylic paint.

Learn to mix the complementary colours using chromatic greys and understand the thought process of matching colours using watercolour paint.

transparent objects (texture): part 1

transparent objects (texture): part 3

In one lesson, students will learn to create artworks of transparent objects using 3 different mediums (pencil, acrylic and watercolour).

In the remaining 2 lessons, the students will be expected to finish an A3 artwork of transparent object(s) in the students' choice of medium.

By the end of the lessons, students will have gained proficiency in drawing/painting the transparent effect in artworks.

*The artwork created within these lessons is usable for their portfolio and the artwork can be adjusted accordingly to portfolio requirements.

furry animals (texture)

Learn about the different techniques used in colour pencil art. Students will also be introduced to creating fur textures using 3 mediums; colour pencils, acrylic and watercolour.

In the last two lessons, students will finish an a3 furry animal artwork with accurate proportions from a photo reference of their choice. The photo reference must include an animal(s) in the scene with a background. The artwork will be created with the student's choice of medium. 

*The artwork created within these lessons is usable for their portfolio and the artwork can be adjusted accordingly to portfolio requirements.

  • Upon completion of all lessons in this course, students will progress to the next section of this course. However, progression to the next section of the course is dependent on the final artwork produced at the end of the course section.

  • If the 8 lessons are not completed, the student will not be allowed to progress to the next section of the course.

  • Feedback will be given after 8 lessons.

In section B of our Intermediate level, students will learn the different design theories such as the rules of composition as well as learning other styles of drawing. They will also learn to create compositional artworks and incorporate the usage of mixed media in their artworks.

stylistic drawing

Introduction to different hatching styles and the scumbling technique. The exercises in this lesson will be done in the medium of the students' choice.

design theory

Learn about the different principles of design as well as the rules of composition. Exercises that trains the eye to observe and apply the rules learnt. Students will also start to plan their final artwork that is to be completed in the next two lessons in their preferred choice of medium.

compositional artworks: part 1

In these two lessons, students are expected to create and complete an A3 artwork in their preferred medium. The artwork should include dynamic composition based on their selected object and theme.

*The artwork created within these lessons is usable for their portfolio and the artwork can be adjusted accordingly to portfolio requirements.

mixed media

Get familiarised with experimenting with different combinations of mixed media and learn to create different textures with the mediums used. A wide variety of materials will be used in this lesson, which encourages exploration.

By the end of the last three lessons, students would have created an a4 piece of mixed media botanical artwork. Students should be using techniques, sighting techniques and compositional rules previously learnt.

Minimal guidance will be provided when needed during the final three lessons to help guide the students in their creation of their final artwork.

*The artwork created within these lessons is usable for their portfolio and the art work can be adjusted accordingly to portfolio requirements.

In section C of our intermediate level, students will learn the techniques used in figure drawing and achieving accurate bodily proportions in artworks. They will also be taught to create detailed artworks of hands and feet, with precise tones and anatomy.

Understand the techniques used to draw hands and understand the importance of line quality. Learn to create accurate tones with pencils or charcoal.

Understand the techniques used to draw feet and understand the importance of line quality. Learn to create accurate tones with pencils or charcoal.

figure drawing: body proportions part 2

Learn to draw figures and accurate body proportions by using sighting techniques.

Students will use previously learnt techniques and sighting techniques to create two A4 drawings of a sitting and standing pose each.

*The artwork created within these lessons is usable for their portfolio and the art work can be adjusted accordingly to portfolio requirements.

Understand foreshortening and learn the techniques used in foreshortening. the lesson should end with a completed a4 artwork that includes line quality and minimal shading in the student's choice of medium.

In the last three lessons, students will finish an A4 figure drawing artwork complete with accurate proportions, shading and line quality with reference to students' own choice of photo reference.

 

The artwork will be done in the students' own choice of medium and should reflect the techniques that had been taught to the students.

*The artwork created within these lessons is usable for their portfolio and the art work can be adjusted accordingly to portfolio requirements.

certification

  • Upon completion of all lessons in this section, students will be presented with a Certificate of Participation/Achievement for the course. The certificate presented is dependent on the students' progress in lessons and the final artworks produced.

  • Students will also progress to the next level of this course. However, progression to the next level of the course is dependent on the final artwork produced at the end of the course section.

  • If the 8 lessons are not completed, the student will not be allowed to progress to the next level of course.

  • Feedback will be given after 8 lessons.
